MN Fury Weekend in Review: Comets Shootout

15U Wilde

Wilde’s group played 5 games this past weekend up in St. Cloud on their way to the first championship of their season. Along the way, the defeated All-in 51-23 in round one and SD Venom 46-38 in round 2. Sunday morning they hit their stride, defeating WI Swing 57-37 and defeating DTA 62-43 in the final four. Wilde would defeat Comets Elite Stumpf 67-47 in the title game to claim the 2019 Comets Shootout Championship. They will play next in Council Bluffs, IA, 4/19 - 4/21.

15U Kaupa

Kaupa’s group opened the season with a tight back and forth game against Select Davis, they fell in that matchup 49-41 as Select pulled away in the end. This group bounced back with 3 straight wins to finish the weekend. Saturday morning they would go on to defeat Crossfire Terhaar 73-55. Sunday they played Mid MN Attack, winning 63-46 and MN Suns in the finale 61-31 to finish the weekend at 3-1. They will play next in Madison, WI, 4/26 - 4/28.

16U Poppen

Poppen’s team opened the season with a victory Saturday morning over Select Edwards 70-58. They would go onto play Crossfire Stone in the second round. In a high intensity game, Poppen’s group found a way to make enough plays to pull away late for a big 60-51 victory. Sunday morning Poppen would fall to the eventual runner-up, WI Swing. Poppen would finish the weekend with a solid victory over ECI Prospects, winning 71-52 and finishing the weekend 3-1. They will play next in Council Bluffs, IA, 4/19 - 4/21.

16U Syverson

Coach Syverson’s team opened the season with a nice victory over MN Rise to open up the weekend. They drew a tall task in round 2 playing the the eventual champion in Heat Tauer. Syverson would get back on track with a 63-53 win over Comets K before falling to WI Playmakers Siler in overtime on Sunday finishing the weekend at 2-2. They will play next in Madison, WI, 4/26 - 4/28.

17U Zurn

Zurn’s group would open up the Comets Shootout with a wire to wire 67-54 victory over Inspired Athletics (ND). Saturday night they would defeat Northern Lakers 67-59 to advance to the quarterfinals to face Comets DLR. They would win that game 78-63 on Sunday morning. In the semifinals, Zurn would face the eventual champion, WI Swing Litscher. In a high level back and forth game, the Swing would make just enough plays to defeat Zurn 63-59. Zurn would finish the weekend 3-1. They will play next in Council Bluffs, IA, 4/19 - 4/21.

17U Kallman

Coach Kallman opened up the 2019 AAU season with a 69-47 victory over the SW MN Stars. In the second round, Kallman would fall to Pentagon Schoolers Robey 65-54. Saturday, Kallman’s group would fall to a tough ECI Prospects team 80-70. To finish the weekend, Kallman would go on to defeat WI Dynasty 70-50. They finished the first weekend 2-2 and will play next in Madison, WI, 4/26 - 4/28.
